Awards > Lucien Appel Prize

History

By means of a generous offer from the Lucien Appel Foundation for Neuroradiology, several years ago it was possible to fuse two awards - the “ESNR Scientific Award” and the “Lucien Appel Prize in Neuroradiology” - into one major annual scientific award called the "Lucien Appel Prize of the ESNR". The last step in this process was taken on September 14th, 2003, when the General Assembly of the ESNR accepted the Appel Foundation offer and its funds were therefore transferred to the ESNR.

The first "Lucien Appel Prize of the ESNR" was presented during the ESNR Annual Congress in Barcelona in 2005. The "Lucien Appel Prize of the ESNR" rewards the achievements of a young neuroradiologist under 40 years of age. The prize, which is awarded annually, is to the amount of  € 4000.

The ESNR Executive Committee decided, on December 18, 2008 in Zurich, to introduce two further prizes of equivalent value, dedicated to the Founders of the European Neuroradiology. One prize is for a diagnostic paper and the other for an interventional one, while the ESNR Appel Prize of the ESNR will be awarded to a research paper.
